South Africa is a year-round destination, but the best time to travel depends on where you want to go and waht you would like to experience.
Generally:
May - September: brings cooler, drier conditions in the northern safari regions, including the Greater Kruger and Madike. Wildlife often gathers around permanent water sources, making this an excellent time for game viewing.
November - March is summer in Cape Town, the Winelands and along the Garden Route, with warm weather and long days.
June - November is the main whale-watching season around Hermanus and the Western Cape coastline
September - November is particularly beautiful for spring flowers and lush landscape across parts of the cape.

Around 10 to 14 nights works well for a first South Africa holiday.
This gives you enough time to combine two or three areas without making the journey feel rushed. A classic itinerary might include 4 nights in Cape Town, 2 or 3 nights in the Winelands and 3 or 4 nights on safari.
For a longer journey, you could add the Garden Route, Hermanus, KwaZulu-Natal or Victoria Falls. South Africa is much larger than it appears on a map, so careful planning is important when deciding how much to include.

Cape Town and the Garden Route offer beaches, wildlife encounters and plenty of child-friendly activities. There are also excellent family-focused safari lodges with larger rooms, flexible mealtimes and activities designed for young travellers.
The Eastern Cape, Madikwe and parts of the Waterberg are especially popular with families because they offer malaria-free safari options. Age restrictions can apply to shared game drives and certain activities, so i will reecommend lodges that suit the ages of your children.
